Ella Bonomi is a British-Nigerian jewellery designer and maker creating sculptural jewellery inspired by the stories, movement and quiet moments found in nature.
Drawing on a background in illustration, motion design and visual storytelling, her work explores the beauty of fleeting moments - whether it's the rhythm of flowing water, the unfurling of a flower, or the character and curiosity found in the natural world. Ella interprets these moments through sculptural forms, transforming them into contemporary jewellery that invites a sense of wonder and connection.
Each piece is designed to be both wearable and enduring, celebrating craftsmanship, storytelling and the beauty of the handmade.
The Journey
Ella's journey into jewellery began while studying Communication Design and Illustration in the United States, where she discovered jewellery metalsmithing through an elective course. Introduced to traditional techniques and the process of transforming raw materials into wearable objects, she developed a lasting appreciation for the sculptural possibilities of jewellery.
She went on to work in the media industry as a motion designer and illustrator for companies including Paramount and BBC News. Although she enjoyed designing for the screen, she found herself missing the satisfaction of making by hand.
Years later, while visiting Murano in Venice, she watched a master glassmaker transform molten glass into a sculptural horse. Witnessing the craftsmanship, creativity and immediacy of the process rekindled her passion for making and inspired her to return to jewellery.
Ella went on to study jewellery at Morley College London, where she was awarded the De Beers Group Scholarship in 2023. Today, she combines her background in illustration, motion design and storytelling with traditional jewellery-making techniques to create sculptural pieces inspired by the beauty and character of the natural world.
The Process
Every piece of Ella Bonomi Jewellery is handcrafted in her London studio using traditional jewellery-making techniques and responsibly sourced precious metals. Many designs begin as hand-carved wax sculptures before being cast, refined and carefully finished by hand.
Her creative process is rooted in observation. Sketches, photographs and everyday encounters with the natural world become the starting point for each collection, evolving through drawing, carving and making into sculptural forms that balance organic movement with thoughtful design.
The handmade process leaves a quiet imprint on every piece. Subtle variations in texture and form are a reflection of the craft itself, making each piece unique. Designed to be worn and treasured for years to come, Ella's jewellery celebrates the beauty of slowing down, noticing the details, and carrying a small story with you every day.
